The law that states that a bike should be able to skid on clean dry pavement is stupid, as it completely discounts the usefulness of a front brake - which is the more important brake if you're going to use one.

That said, there's no reason that a fixed-gear rider using their legs to brake should treated any differently by the law than a cyclist with a coaster brake - and nobody complains about them. Skidding on a fixed-gear is not difficult to master. That said, I wouldn't dare ride my fixie without a brake. I'm a competent rider, but I know the different in stopping distance between my best skid and the careful application of my front brake.

Bike messengers were one of the original cyclists of this bike... therefore they are meant for busy streets.

the danger of fixies aren't the bikes themselves, it's the inexperienced riders who don't know how to ride properly.

"Brakeless fixed gears were never intended for commuting on busy streets" ...actually every bike was a brakeless fixed gear for a very long time. It was only when cars cluttered the streets and more skeptical cyclists feared riding that bike makers made a brake standard. Just so you all know!
