Great article about a subject that is really difficult to get reliable information on! To understand the pros and cons on this debate, we need to consider all aspects of the life cycles of the competing products. The bags from China are made from recycled plastics, but what are the environmental and social conditions under which they are made? What are the environmental impacts involved in growing hemp and cotton? What are the environmental costs associated with recycling the paper used in paper bags? And let's not forget that a major problem with the white plastic bags is litter - which is why an increasing number of cities are forbidding their use.

Thanks for articles like this that give consumers the information they need to make the right decisions. Most people have no idea without this type of reporting. Buying local doesn't just apply to your food products. Consumers can make a difference with all of their choices. Make your voices heard or vote with your feet.
