News, analysis and commentary by UBC Journalism students

Amanda Sung

Amanda is a first-year Master of Journalism student at University of British Columbia (UBC).

Before embarking studies in Journalism, Amanda worked as the promotions assistant at OP Publishing, where she had a chance to write a few articles and sidebars for Cottage Magazine.

Prior to that, Amanda worked for UBC Alma Mater Student Society (AMS) Communications & Design Services. She was the Editor of 2007-2008 student handbook AMS Insider.

Amanda currently volunteers at the Simon Fraser University (SFU) campus/community radio CJSF 90.1 FM as the Public Relations Department Coordinator. She is passionate about independent media and their mandates of reflecting the voices of marginalized communities.

Simon Fraser University is also where Amanda attended for her undergraduate career. She completed a major in Communication and a minor in English.

When Amanda was studying at SFU, she was the Editor-in-Chief of UVoice Magazine, a student-run Asian-Canadian campus publication. She had her own column and took on workload in departments of public relations as well as marketing. This is one of the covers of the magazine that she worked on:
