Dawn Paley is a print journalist based in Vancouver, B.C.
She has reported from four continents for publications including The Globe and Mail, B.C. Business Magazine, The Tyee, The Dominion, Briarpatch Magazine, the Georgia Straight, the Vancouver Sun, and Upside Down World, among others.
Dawn has worked as a contributing editor with The Dominion, and is a founding member of the Media Cooperative. She is a firm believer in the necessity of grassroots, bottom-up journalism.
Though her home is in Vancouver, her heart dances in Latin America, where she’s reported extensively on the extractive industries and Canadian trade.
Among her longer published works are a chapter in the graphic novel Extraction! and an essay on weblogs and organizing in Autonomous Media. She worked as a production assistant on the feature documentary Under Rich Earth, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008.
Dawn is fluent in French and Spanish. She has a BA in Women’s Studies and First Nations Studies from SFU, and she’s currently enrolled in the MJ program at UBC. Her personal homepage can be found here.
