Katie Hyslop

Katie Hyslop is a first year masters of journalism student at The University of British Columbia.

A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Katie, 23, previously volunteered and worked with The Muse, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador’s student newspaper, for five years as a reporter and news editor. During the summer of 2008, she worked as the summer reporter for The Independent, a now-defunct provincial weekly paper in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Katie has an undergraduate degree in Russian from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and her glasses are held together with electrical tape.

Samples of her work:

“Policing the mentally ill after the Luther Inquiry,” The Muse, January 17, 2008

“Building suffers structural stress,” The Muse, April 2, 2008

“We’re sending the wrong message,” The Independent, June 25, 2008
