Kitsilano Neighbourhood House is hosting a series of workshops as part of a new project that allows seniors to ‘map’ their community. Thirty eight seniors attended the first workshop in early October and two more are set to take place on November 25 and December 16.

The information gained through these workshops will be used to create a guidebook for seniors living on the Westside of Vancouver. On November 6, seniors in the area volunteered to take photos that will be published in the guidebook and which capture community spots that “older adults” feel comfortable.

Some of the areas they visited were Jericho Beach, the University of British Columbia’s Museum of Anthropology, Nitobe Memorial Gardens, and Aberthau, the West Point Grey Community Centre. Evelyn’s Coffee Shop and Hollywood Theatre on Broadway were also mentioned as areas that these seniors plan to put in the guidebook.
